Lawton is the city Fort Sill sits beside. The post is the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence; the housing market around it is a mix of older west-side and central neighborhoods, military rentals, and commercial along Gore, Cache Road, and Sheridan. Lawton housing and weather
West Lawton and the neighborhoods near Cache Road take wind and hail with little tree cover to break it. Central and older tracts have pier-and-beam houses, plaster, and plumbing that has been patched through several owners. A large share of the stock is rental because Fort Sill turns over soldiers on a schedule. A tenant may report a leak late. A landlord may be out of state. We still photograph the loss, extract the water, and write moisture logs the carrier and the property manager can both read.
On-post housing is a separate system. We work off-post houses, duplexes, and commercial buildings that soldiers and civilians live in or lease in Lawton. Lake Lawtonka and Lake Ellsworth sit upstream. They are water supply and flood control, not a guarantee that a hard rain stays in the channel.
