Anadarko's post office dates to 1873, and the Wichita Agency was reestablished on the north bank of the Washita River two years before that. The downtown historic district went on the National Register in 1990. That age is the first thing we look at on an Anadarko call: older brick and frame buildings near downtown hold water in plaster, lath, and old floor systems far longer than a newer house with drywall on a slab, and a dry-out plan has to account for it.

Most water calls here start in one of three places: a supply line or water heater inside the house, a roof opened up by spring hail or wind, or surface water after a slow-moving storm sits over the Washita valley.
